Dental emergencies happen, and when they do, Dr. Manuel J. Rodriguez and the staff at Wauconda Dental Excellence can help. They treat several traumatic dental injuries, including teeth that have been chipped, moved, or knocked out entirely. If you experience a dental emergency, call the Wauconda, Illinois office to receive immediate treatment or use the online booking agent to find the next available appointment.
Dental emergencies include any trauma to your teeth or gums. These injuries can be serious, and you shouldn’t ignore them. Immediate treatment increases your chances of a full recovery without permanent damage. Examples of a dental emergency include:
If you’ve had a tooth knocked out in an accident or sports event, do your best to keep it as moist as possible. Brush off any visible dirt and hold it in its socket or your cheek. If that’s not possible, store it in a glass of milk until you can get to Wauconda Dental Excellence.
If your tooth is only partially dislodged, apply a cold pack to the outside of the affected area to alleviate pain and swelling and get to the office right away.
In some cases, a chipped tooth is an emergency, especially if the chip is severe or causes a lot of pain. Call the office immediately following the incident, even if you aren’t sure.
If you have any of the broken pieces, save them and bring them to your appointment. Stop any bleeding by biting down on a piece of damp gauze, and rinse your mouth with warm water.
For a cracked tooth, see Dr. Rodriguez right away. Immediately after the incident, rinse your mouth with warm water to clean away bacteria and hold a cold compress against your face to help with swelling or pain.
A piece of food or another foreign object wedged around the tooth can cause severe toothaches. Use floss — not a pointed instrument — to try to get it out.
Toothaches can also occur due to a deep infection, such as an abscess, that needs immediate attention. Abscesses indicate an infection around the root of a tooth or in the space between the teeth and gums. If left untreated, an abscess can spread and damage your oral health. It may even spread to other parts of your body.
If you’ve experienced an emergency or are in severe pain, call Wauconda Dental Excellence to be seen as soon as possible. They offer same-day appointments.
